EYELIDS PLAYS JAY GONZALEZ PLAYS EYELIDS PLAYS JAY GONZALEZ
Limited Edition Split 7"
Colored Vinyl-Edition of ???? copies
Out August 23rd 2019
Jealous Butcher Records

Featuring members of Drive-By Truckers, Guided By Voices, Decemberists
Plus Bonus Track including Scott McCaughey (R.E.M., The Minus 5)

After Portland's Eyelids & Athens' Jay Gonzalez (of Drive-By Truckers) finished their last East Coast tour together they swore to write (and dare) songs for each other to record. So Jay wrote "Warning Light" for Eyelids to arrange and record & Eyelids wrote "Rare Halo" for Jay to do the same. It's the perfect blend of all their lop-sided, heart felt rock coming together from all sides & places. And speaking of together--they all recorded a bonus track of Camper Van Beethoven's "Oh No" from their first record, Telephone Free Landslide Victory. But "Oh Yeah" they got Scott McCaughey (Minus 5, Young Fresh Fellows) to sing lead on it. A nice meeting of '85 headspace indeed.

It is a uniquely surprising, endearing and singular object of left turned music.

PRESS:
EYELIDS
"A doozy from Portlandian guitar spanglers: like Wire rethinking Outdoor Miner for a Dukes of Stratosphere tribute."- UK's MOJO MAGAZINE top 10

"With more than a hint of the Beatles, drenched in three West Coast guitars and as great as any alt American record gets."

– Chris Hawkins, BBC6 Radio

“As all great concerts do, the evening’s set list ebbed and flowed between up-tempo, high-energy tunes contrasted with mellower songs, ultimately culminating in a sonic maelstrom that saw guitarist John Moen wading into the crowd to hang his guitar around a startled fan’s neck in a definitive act of audience participation.” – Parklife, DC

JAY GONZALEZ

"A self-professed 'sucker for short pop songs filled with hooks and devoid of filler,' Drive-By Trucker Jay Gonzalez has spent the last four years composing a five-song medley that incorporates influences ranging from the Beatles and the Who to Joe Jackson and Bread. Writing about life events, the five songs on The Bitter Suite are marked by the loss of a relative, a separation with a musical partner and missing his family while traveling the world." - Eric Risch POPMATTERS

"Inspired by conceptual rock operas like The Who’s A Quick One While He’s Away and [...] side 2 of Abbey Road, Gonzalez stitched five songs together to flow seamlessly as one piece. The album is a pleasing listen through and through with emotional ups and downs, constant tempo changes, and a kaleidoscope of instruments and sounds performed almost exclusively by Gonzalez [...] Hearing a talented musician embrace this criminally underrated genre is a good thing for anyone who yearns for the relative popularity of genre revivalists like Matthew Sweet and Teenage Fanclub in the Nineties." - Neil Ferguson GLIDE MAGAZINE

EYELIDS have turned inwards to their loves of New Zealand/Flying Nun guitar buzz , their teenage L.A. paisley underground obsessions, haunts of early Athens and all things beautiful, lopsided and rock. We give you fair warning.
